3 Retirement Savings Tips Before Year End

Join us as we review a year end tip to consider on ROTH IRAs, 401(k)s and HSAs. We also offer a bonus tip! Here is a sneak preview into each tip.

TIP 1: Consider a Roth IRA. What’s the biggest impact you can make towards retirement? Having a Roth IRA and Roth 401(k). Why? It’s all about the taxes.

TIP 2: Increase Your 401(k) Retirement Plan by 1%. Many of us contribute a percentage of our pay to our workplace retirement plans, like a 401(k). When was the last time you increased your contribution?

TIP 3: Max Out Your Health Savings Account. If your medical insurance plan is classified as a High Deductible Health Plan, you have the option to contribute to a Health Savings Account (HSA). There is a triple tax advantage with HSAs.

Comparing Retirement Income Strategies

For more than 25 years, the most common guideline has been the “4% rule,” which suggests that a withdrawal equal to 4% of the initial portfolio value, with annual increases for inflation, is sustainable over a 30-year retirement. The 4% rule has stimulated a great deal of discussion over the years, with some experts saying 4% is too low and others saying it’s too high.
